The foundation of my art lies within myself. And I believe it lies within my viewer, too. My style is an intentional narration of the complexity of each of our human experiences. Rather than projecting stories and emotions as a monolith through my eyes, my color palette and blend of different shapes create windows of authenticity that call in the viewer to witness the dynamics of their on lives through my work. Influences of geometric abstraction and cubism act not only as an ode to my Taino & African Ancestors, but as an illustration of simplicity at its finest. Art that is simple, yet vocal. The objective of my pieces is to not imitate Life, but to help others dive deeper into their subconscious mind, unmask, and exist in the unapologetic -- and often complex -- Truth(s) of their own. I’m shaped by all my experiences, thoughts, connections and emotions. My art allows for these versions of me to take up space without shame.
I hope to work with stained glass soon in my style.

Tiraj Johnson-Garay is a self-taught artist living in Augusta, GA. His work explores complex human emotions, experiences and desires throughout one’s life by utilizing a balanced composition and dynamic shapes in abstract ways. He draws inspiration from his time as a licensed therapist for over 5 years, specializing in trauma. He was featured in several international magazines and local group exhibitions; including 'Vita Speciosa - Life is Beautiful". He was also 1 of 30 artists in the Augusta Poster Show, where he created a piece entitled 'Generational Rebirth'. This piece won the ‘Spirit of Augusta’ award. He hopes to continue contributing to the collection and preservation of Black/Latinx history, as these intersections are important to him as an Afro Rican. Freedom is a concept he likes to touch on a lot in his work (not just limited to art). Freedom from colonial mindsets, self-limiting beliefs, and all the paradoxes that have lied to us that joy is not our birthright.
When we show up authentic, we create the space for others to do the same.
This is why it's important for me to walk in my Truths.
I hope my art resonates with your unapologetic Truths as well.
Anything brilliant about me is merely a reflection of YOU.
